5 ways to use PET felt in hospitality interiors

In a hospitality interior, everything revolves around the experience. From the first step into a hotel lobby to an evening at the table, material, colour and form determine how a space feels. PET felt offers plenty of opportunities to combine atmosphere with acoustic comfort. We’ll show you 5 ways to make PET felt part of the interior concept.

    1. Make the wall part of the story

A wall doesn't have to be a background. In hotels, restaurants and bars in particular, the wall can play an important role in the identity of the interior. With felt wall covering, you can use colour, relief and shape to create a particular atmosphere.

Think, for example, of striking felt wall panels behind a hotel reception desk, an organic pattern in a restaurant or a subtle graphic texture along a long wall. By aligning colours and shapes with the interior concept, the felt becomes part of the story you want to tell with the space.

In addition, felt on the wall does not always need to cover the entire wall. A number of strategically placed felt panels may be sufficient to give a large surface more character and depth. PET felt is available in a wide range of colours and can be crafted into various shapes and patterns, allowing for plenty of design freedom.

    2. Look up: use a felt ceiling as a design element

In hospitality interiors, attention is often focused on floors, furniture and walls, whereas the ceiling has a major influence on a space’s appearance and acoustics too.

With a felt ceiling, you can deliberately incorporate that surface into the design. Think of ceiling islands above a restaurant area, vertical baffles above the bar, felt integrated with lighting, or a shape that follows the route through a hotel lobby.

Especially in large, open spaces, a ceiling solution can also help to visually distinguish between different functions. For example, you can give the lounge, reception or different seating areas their own atmosphere, without installing physical walls.

PET felt can be used for this in, among other things, room dividers, ceiling clouds and baffles.

    3. Create Distinct Zones Within a Single Interior

A hospitality space often serves multiple purposes. In a hotel, for example, reception, waiting, working and relaxing come together. In a restaurant, you may want to distinguish between the bar, large tables and more intimate seating.

PET felt can help give those different zones their own identity. This can be done with felt wall panels, as well as with ceiling solutions or dividers. By repeating a colour, pattern or shape, you create cohesion while also making it clear that part of the space has a different function.

The great thing is that the openness of the interior can be retained. You do not create enclosed rooms, but you do give different areas their own character. Dividers made from PET felt can provide both visual separation and an acoustic function.

    4. Integrate acoustics into the interior design

A lively restaurant or a busy hotel bar can certainly sound like a place where things are happening. But when sound lingers for a long time, it can come at the expense of comfort and speech intelligibility.

Acoustic felt offers the opportunity to take this into account during the design process. Instead of adding acoustic elements to an interior afterwards, they can become an integral part of the concept from the outset.

For example, acoustic wall covering can also serve as a decorative feature wall. A felt wall panel, on the other hand, can add a splash of colour, while ceiling islands can enhance the design above a seating area.

PET felt absorbs sound waves and thereby helps to reduce reverberation. The final acoustic performance depends, among other things, on the chosen application, thickness and installation.

In this way, acoustics becomes not a separate technical issue, but part of the overall interior experience.

    5. Translate the identity of the hospitality concept into PET felt

No boutique hotel, restaurant or bar is the same. So why should the application of PET felt be any different?

It is precisely through customisation that you can make the material align with the identity of a concept. Think of shapes echoed in the architecture, colours from the corporate identity or a pattern that refers to the surroundings or the story behind the location.

In a luxury hotel lobby, it can be very understated, while a bold restaurant concept calls for colour and larger forms. By viewing the wall, ceiling and other elements as a whole, an interior is created in which the material does not feel like an addition, but genuinely belongs to the concept.

EASYfelt offers PET felt in various thicknesses and more than 30 colours, processing the material into a wide range of solutions for walls and ceilings. This makes it possible to combine different colours, shapes and sizes.

    From Material to Experience

A good hospitality interior goes beyond what a guest sees. It is also about how a space feels and sounds. With PET felt, you can connect these elements.

From felt wall cladding that immediately catches the eye to a felt ceiling that subtly improves acoustics: by incorporating PET felt into the design from the outset, solutions are created in which appearance and acoustic comfort reinforce each other.
