Frequently Asked Questions
We often receive the same questions from our customers. Therefore, we have compiled the most common questions and the corresponding answers for you below.
Can I use felted wool for upholstering furniture?
You can use felt in strips to cover furniture, but only on flat surfaces. The material has no report on wear resistance, so it can wear out quickly depending on usage. We therefore do not recommend it for furniture upholstery.
Is it possible to bend felt and use it for round or organic shapes?
The base material is somewhat flexible. The thicknesses 9 and 12 mm are slightly flexible, as long as the radius is not too small. Thicker variants such as 25 and 50 mm are not bendable and therefore unsuitable for round shapes. For applications such as columns, processing with V-grooves is required. Note: the material is not as flexible as felt; you cannot bend it around objects.
What are the maximum dimensions in which the PET felt can be delivered?
The felt is available in various maximum dimensions, depending on the thickness and type:
- 244 x 122 cm
- 280 x 120 cm
- 307 x 207 cm
- 248 x 125 cm (only with a thickness of 50 mm)
Can a print or design be applied to the felt?
Yes, in theory it is possible to apply a print or print onto the felt. However, we do not offer this service.
Do you work with laser cutting?
No, we do not use laser cutting. The heat from the laser can cause the felt to melt, leaving a visible melt edge. Therefore, we opt for other cutting techniques that provide a cleaner result.
Is PET felt suitable as flooring or for use on the ground?
No, the felt is not suitable for use on the floor. It does not have an abrasion resistance report and therefore is not resistant to intensive use or loading.
Can I use PET felt to dampen external noise?
PET felt has limited insulating properties, but it is not effective enough to truly dampen noise from outside – such as traffic or neighbour sounds. It is mainly intended to improve the acoustics within a space, not for sound insulation.
Does the felt pill, and how long does it typically last?
The felt can theoretically pill, but this rarely occurs in practice. PET felt wall panels have a long lifespan and typically last for decades with normal use. The material is sturdy, retains its shape, and is easy to maintain.
How do I best secure the felt, and is it suitable for all types of walls?
The best method of fixing depends on the situation and the surface. In many cases, the felt can be glued, but not all walls are suitable for this. If in doubt, we advise you to contact us. We are happy to help you think about the right application and installation.
Can I easily cut the felt to size myself?
Yes, you can easily cut the felt to size yourself. This can be done in the following ways:
- With a sharp Stanley knife – Use a sturdy and sharp knife, preferably a new one, to make clean and neat cuts. Cut in multiple passes, applying gentle pressure.
- With a flush-cut saw – This allows you to cut the rear side accurately. We recommend making a test cut on scrap material first. Don't have any? Let us know, and we can include it with your order.
Would you prefer a ready-made solution? We also offer custom PET felt at an additional cost. Feel free to send us the details of your project, and we will think along with you and make a suitable proposal.
How do I submit a custom order, and what information do you need for that?
For a custom project, we kindly request the following information:
- A brief description of the situation or application
- The desired thickness of the PET felt
- The desired colour of the PET felt
- The number of panels or parts
- The exact dimensions
- A clear sketch or technical drawing of the bespoke item
Send this information via email or through the contact form on our website. We will then get in touch to discuss the options and provide a quotation.
How can I best clean the felt?
Maintaining PET felt is simple. You can clean it by wiping it with a damp cloth or by gently vacuuming it with a soft brush attachment. The material is low-maintenance and retains its appearance over time with normal use.
