Properties of felt
Felt, made from compressed fibres, is known for its unique qualities:
Acoustic Benefits
The material offers natural thermal and sound-absorbing properties, making it suitable for improving the acoustics in a space. PET felt primarily absorbs mid- and high-frequency sound. The thicker the panel, the more effectively sound is dampened. The 50 mm variant provides the strongest sound absorption.
Sustainability
Our products are made from PET felt containing at least 60% recycled material. In addition, the felt itself is also recyclable. Our PET felt is also sourced from Europe, with all 9 mm felt coming from the Netherlands. Because this process takes place entirely in the Netherlands, we keep the production chain short, minimise transport, and reduce our CO₂ footprint.
Versatility
This material is extremely versatile and can be cut into various shapes for different projects and applications. We have our own cutting machines for customised shapes in any desired form.
Maintainable
PET felt can be kept dust-free with a soft brush, damp cloth, or vacuum cleaner. The material does not attract moisture and is not susceptible to mould.
Strong and lightweight
Due to the high density of the fibres, the panels are surprisingly sturdy. At the same time, they are light enough for easy mounting on wall or ceiling.
Many Different Colours
From subtle earth tones to bold accent colours, there is always a colour that suits your interior. Each thickness has its own colour range, so you can choose the best match for each application.
Is your colour not listed? For the 9 mm variant, it is possible to produce a customised colour. Please note that this is only feasible for larger quantities and will involve a longer lead time. Contact us to discuss the options.
PET-felt thicknesses and colours
Available in 3 thicknesses and over 30 colours
Discover our range of PET felt, available in various thicknesses to meet all your (decorative) needs. Our PET felt comes in 9 mm, 25 mm, and 50 mm, from subtle wall decorations to powerful ceiling solutions and sturdy desk screens, we always have something suitable for your project.
If you want more sound absorption but want to keep the extensive colour choice of the 9 mm, then 18 mm is a smart intermediate solution: two layers of 9 mm felt glued together give you the best of both worlds, better acoustics and maximum colour freedom.
What thickness suits your project?
PET felt is available in three thicknesses. Each thickness has its own colour range and is suitable for different applications. The right thickness of PET felt depends on how much sound improvement you want and how large your space is. This will help you get started:
9 mm
Choose 9 mm if you mainly want something attractive on the wall with a mild acoustic effect.
- Suitable for small spaces or light reverberation
- Ideal for living rooms, home offices, and bedrooms
- Reduces echo, but not intended for larger acoustic challenges
- Subtle and sleek appearance, both on walls and ceilings
18 mm
Looking for a good balance between appearance and performance? Then 18 mm is the right choice.
- The most popular all-round thickness
- Perfect for offices, restaurants, meeting rooms, and open-plan living spaces
- Measurably reduces speech noise and disruptive echoes
25 mm or 50 mm
Dealing with a lot of reverberation? Thicker PET felt is the best choice.
- Suitable for large or busy spaces such as hospitality venues, (open-plan) offices, and schools
- Works better on lower tones
- Often applied in larger panels or custom-made solutions
Here's how to easily choose the right thickness:
- Small space or light reverberation? → 9 mm
- Medium-sized space with clear echo? → 18 mm
- Large or busy space? → 25 mm or thicker
Tip: It’s not just the thickness that counts. Also, the amount of surface area covered makes a significant difference to the result.
With clever design choices, you can achieve surprisingly good acoustic performance even with 9 mm PET felt. For example, by incorporating shapes that trap more sound.
Additionally, you can enhance the performance of PET felt by creating an air gap between the felt and the wall or ceiling. This space helps to better absorb sound waves. This way, even thinner materials like 9 mm can deliver much greater effect.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between PET felt and regular felt?
Plain felt (wool or craft felt) is made from animal or synthetic fibres and is relatively soft and thin. PET felt is made from compressed polyester fibres; it is strong, dimensionally stable, available in large formats, and has demonstrable acoustic properties. Additionally, PET felt is partly made from recycled PET bottles.
How do I bevestig PET-vilt aan the wall?
Many EASYfelt products are delivered with a self-adhesive backing; application is just like applying a large sticker. For larger panels, we do recommend using extra sealant to ensure it stays securely attached. Make sure the substrate is free of dust and grease. Sheet material can also be mounted with double-sided tape, mounting adhesive, or mechanical fixing (screws, clips). For an alternative mounting method, please contact us!
Can I have PET felt cut to size?
Yes. EASYfelt has its own cutting machines and an R&D team that creates custom designs. From straight cuts to complex shapes, logos or own designs, view the customisation options for all possibilities.
Is PET-felt fire-safe?
PET felt meets the fire class requirements applicable for indoor use. The base material from which the felt panels are cut has been tested in accordance with EN-13501 and classified as fire class B-s1, d0.
How do I care for PET felt?
PET-felt is easy to maintain. Use a soft brush, damp cloth or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove dust. The material does not attract moisture and is resistant to normal indoor conditions.
Can I order a sample first?
Yes, and we recommend it! Via our sample page you can order individual samples, a sample card, a Sample Box or Sample Map. This way you can see and feel the colour and quality before placing a larger order.
