PET felt wall covering in university lecture halls Leiden University
For the lecture hall building of Leiden University on Einsteinweg, we have recently completed a stunning project: cladding no less than eight walls in four lecture halls with a unique bespoke pattern in PET felt. And these are not just any walls—each wall is approximately 15 metres long and 1.8 metres high, significantly impacting the aesthetic and comfort of the rooms.
From the '60s to contemporary
The existing wooden slat walls had been there since the construction of the lecture halls, somewhere in the 1960s. They had served their purpose for decades, but it was clear that renewal was overdue. The PET felt gives the rooms a modern, calm appearance and also contributes to a better acoustics. Students and teachers can therefore work and learn in a more pleasant environment.
Custom-fit down to the millimeter
The walls in these lecture halls are anything but standard: they slope upwards and are constructed at various angles. This meant that standard panels were not an option. Therefore, we first carried out a comprehensive on-site measurement, accurately recording every corner, line, and slope. Subsequently, our R&D department got to work. The custom pattern was hand-designed and developed into individual parts that fit together precisely.
The result: a sleek whole
A total of 139 unique custom panels have been produced. Our experienced installation team has installed each one, ensuring that every panel fits perfectly with the next. The sleek line design and precise finish make the walls form a seamless whole.
With this new PET felt wall covering, the lecture halls exude modernity and comfort once again. A successful project we are proud of and that everyone at Leiden University will enjoy for many years to come.
